Types of Ear Rings
There are numerous types of ear rings. Here is the list of a few.
Stud Ear Rings
The special feature of these ear rings is that the point of connection is not visible from the front side. So the floating effect appears on the ear or the earlobe.
Hoop Ear Rings
Hoop Ear rings are very similar to a ring in shape. These are circular in design. The hollow tubing is permanently attached to the wire at the front of the ear, and slips into the tube at the back. The entire ornament is held together by tension between the wire and the tube.
Sleeper Ear Rings
The sleeper ear rings are one type of hoop ear ring. There is a very thin and small piece of wire that is put round the base of the earlobe, connecting the ends at the back side of the ear. They are worn at night to prevent the ear piercing from closing. The small size makes it comfortable to wear these ear rings at night.
Dangle Ear Rings
Dangle ear rings are long in size and shape. These ear rings are usually designed to flow from the earlobes and the end touches the shoulder.
Huggy Ear Rings
These ear rings are very famous and popular because they are available in so many different shapes like hearts, rectangles etc. Jewelers make many verities of huggy ear rings as they can demonstrate their art of craft. These ear rings are designed in such a way that the ring actually hugs the earlobe.
Slave Ear Rings
The slave ear rings are seen rarely and these are not very popular. The stud is attached to an ear cuff by a chain.
Ear Thread
These ear rings are also known as earththreader, ear string or threader. A thin chain slips into the ear hole and come back out, and dangles. Beads, small diamonds or other material is added to the chain and the chain dangles with the thing below the ear.
Ear Spikes
Mostly in eastern countries like Hong Kong teenage girls wear these ear rings as other type of ear rings are not allowed in the schools. A special type of plastic stick goes into the ear piercing and it does not fall out as it is slightly bigger than the piercing.
